Latest Innovation News from the Creative Industries KTN

Would you like to get your exciting mobile technology in front of the top names of the global mobile industry? Then there is still time to win a place on the UKTI stand at next year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The UKTI stand is on route to all the main areas of the exhibition and conference.

This is a fabulous opportunity to showcase your company at Europe’s most prestigious event for the mobile sector and meet potential business partners and all you have to do is tell us, in 250 words or less: “Why would you be the talk of MWC and how will your offering act as a draw and be demonstrated on and around the UKTI booth?”

UKTI has a packed programme including a series of presentations and events covering key conference themes to help promote UK business, collaboration. You can read full details on the UKTI leaflet.

We have now published the executive summary for our Exploiting Digital Tools Beacon Project. The report sets out the findings and recommendations of the report in an easy to download and easy to read format.

In this issue:

Win up to £5,000 in IC tomorrow App Building Contest

There is just under a week to go to get involved in the app building competition being run by our chums at MiniBar as part of the Technology Strategy Board’s IC Tomorrow project which offers a prize of £5,000. The competition is split into two categories.
-       End User Apps

-       Metadata Enrichment Apps

The dates for the competition are:

  • 23rd November - Deadline for all entries will be logged on the IC tomorrow platform in advance of the final judging.
  • 25th November – App showcase event and final judging.** The overall winner will be awarded £5,000 and the runner-up £2,000.

Digital Shoreditch festival transforms East London into a digital playground.

The countdown has begun to Digital Shoreditch – a festival which will turn East London into a digital playground.

Trendy Shoreditch is establishing itself as a hotbed for talent in the creative industries, from television production to gaming. The Digital Shoreditch festival will celebrate all of this creativity during a five-day jamboree in May.

There will be late-night parties, eye-catching displays such lighting up buildings, real-world interactive installations, and augmented reality games. Businesses will get the chance to exhibit their work, a 3D film festival will highlight new talent, and a networking event will allow digital entrepreneurs to swap notes.

The aim is to celebrate the creative diversity and talent thriving within London’s Silicon Valley-like society, and put Shoreditch on the map as the UK’s digital hub. Emily Memarzia, at PlayGen and co-founder of the festival explained: ‘We wanted to provide a platform and a voice for any talent within this space- regardless of whether they are a luminary or a start-up. Our approach is deliberately organic and community oriented. Individuals from all walks of life can connect, entertain and exchange ideas, and contribute to this wonderfully creative society. ’

Many of the events will be free, and anyone is invited to add their event to the calendar at no cost. All participants are promoted as an official Digital Shoreditch supporter, and can benefit from national media exposure and the forward-thinking ethos of the festival.

The activity takes place in vibrant Shoreditch and Brick Lane on the 4th-8th May, 2011. Home to the largest concentration of creatives in Europe, and over 300 digital studios and agencies, Shoreditch provides an exciting place for industry to showcase, and the public to experiment with the latest in digital innovation.

To join in, visit www.digitalshoreditch.com, and follow on Twitter @digishoreditch
